“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32, NIV).
Our youngest son was diagnosed with cancer when he was 14. I couldn’t believe my precious child was so sick. I sat through his medical examinations as if I were in a dream.
In the consultation room, the doctor showed me the X-rays of Mark’s lungs. I stood behind him while he explained them to me―and I shut my eyes! I couldn’t stand to see the cancer in my son’s lungs.
The reason was simple. Unlike the doctor, I didn’t know the remedy for cancer. I didn’t understand how the remedy could really work. My fear kept me from looking at the truth.
Just as Mark’s doctor knew what to do, Christ also knows the cure for our sin. “If you hold to my teaching,” He says, “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (verses 31,32).
It’s hard to face the truth sometimes.
It’s hard to face issues when the outcome is not what you hoped for.
It’s hard to admit relationships are not working.
It’s hard to admit sin in our lives.
Yet the Word of God says, “The truth will set you free.” Let God shine His light in your heart. Let Him apply the remedy for sin so you will get well—and be free!
