“A fool repeats his folly” (Proverbs 26:11, NIV).
Why do we keep making the same mistakes? We promise ourselves we’ll do better next time. We vow to overcome. We try as hard as we can . . . only to eventually fall again. What would make us return to that which made us sick in the first place? We are human, we are sinners, and without the grace of God, we are fools destined for a life of foolishness. Our only hope is in Jesus and the power He gives us to live an overcoming life. We also need a few good friends. We must be willing to come clean and admit our weaknesses to someone else who will commit to pray with us and for us and who loves us enough to tell us when we’re acting foolishly.
Lord, come in power and deliver me from my sin! You know the area of my life where, as hard as I try, as sincere as my resolve is, I continue to fail. I admit it. I can’t overcome this on my own. I’m calling out to You , in the mighty name of Jesus, and asking You to win this battle for me. I’m desperate, Lord. Please help me.
