Moments for Moms

On Being a People Pleaser

“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe” (Proverbs 29:25, NIV).

As moms we can get so caught up in trying to please others that we end up failing everybody. Often we feel paralyzed, not knowing who to listen to. But we’re never going to make everyone happy, so we might as well accept that and stop trying to, or we’ll just be miserable. Our best bet is to find out God’s opinion on the matter, act according to that, and let the chips fall where they may. If others have a problem with that, they can take it up with God. If the issue is one God doesn’t specifically comment on in His Word, then ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. He will speak to you. I’m all for getting advice from other people, but ultimately, we need to be true to ourselves and the Lord. Be OK with that.

Heavenly Father, help me to care more about what You think than what anyone else in the world thinks. I want to be sensitive to other people’s opinions and advice, but ultimately, You are the only one I have to answer to. Help me to obey You, even if I make somebody else mad in the process. Keep me free from being a people pleaser.
