“He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy” (Proverbs 28:13, NIV).
We may think we’re getting away with sin, but we never really do. Try as we may to hide it, it always rears its ugly head some way or another—even if that simply means robbing us of a clear conscience or blocking the flow of blessings. The best thing to do is bring the darkness into the light of Jesus. As moms we’re so used to holding our kids accountable that we forget we need to be accountable too. Find a trustworthy friend and admit you’re having trouble. Believe me, friends have weak areas too, so they won’t think terrible things about you. As a matter of fact, they’ll probably think more highly of you for having the courage to deal with your sin. Ask God to help you make any changes in your life that are necessary. And give your friend permission to ask you blunt questions occasionally as a point of accountability. Two are definitely better than one, and it’s hard to beat the strength of three.
Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of forgiveness. I can’t believe Your mercy is available to me no matter what I’ve done, and all I have to do is ask. Give me good friends I can turn to for help. Most of all, I ask for Your help to turn from my past and walk into the future You have for me.
