“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations” (Proverbs 27:23-24, NIV).
I hate the word budget, don’t you? I know a budget is important and, ultimately, a good thing. But I’d still rather not have to think about how much money I do or don’t have. Still it’s important to know what kind of condition our finances are in. We do need to take saving for the future seriously. Who knows whether our family will be one of the next to face unemployment? Life carries no guarantees. Thankfully, our hope is in the Lord, not in our financial security. Yes, we should plan for the future, but we should never forget that the future is in God’s hands.
I want to be a good steward of the resources You’ve given me, Lord. Show me the balance between enjoying the abundance You love to give and being wasteful and materialistic. Teach me how to be wise about planning for the future without trusting in myself rather than You for security.
