“The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother” (Proverbs 29:15, NIV).
Balance, balance, balance. If only parenting were as easy as simply spanking foolishness out of our children or talking them into making good choices. When we are most honest with ourselves, we have to admit that as moms we often have no idea what to do with our kids! Sometimes they drive us crazy and we feel like complete failures. But don’t give up too soon. Remember, motherhood is a lifetime job. Just keep on disciplining your children when they make wrong choices and encouraging them when they choose wisely. Sometimes parenting calls for tough love, and sometimes we need to surprise our kids with grace and mercy. Ask their (heavenly) Father; He’ll help you know what to do and when to do it.
I need wisdom, Lord. I often feel totally helpless when it comes to parenting. Whisper direction to my heart so I’ll know when my children need a strong hand and when they need a gentle nudge. I want to enjoy my kids.
