On Leaving a Godly Heritage

“The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him” (Proverbs 20:7, NIV).

It would be great to leave our children a large inheritance. Hey, it would be nice simply to save enough to pay for their college education. We spend enormous time and energy providing for our kids and working to supply all their needs—and as many wants as possible. Sadly, we sometimes even compromise on other important things in order to give them all we can. We may work way too many hours away from home or make questionable decisions or cut moral corners because everyone else does. We forget that one of the best things we can give our children is a good name. Our kids have a better shot at happiness if we make our choices based on an eternal perspective rather than on temporary pleasures.

Lord, thank You for Your promises to us when we obey You and follow Your ways. Thank You that we are not the only ones who benefit from our decision to trust You. Pour out Your blessings on my children. Show them that in following You there is safety, peace, abundance and joy.
