Moments for Moms

On Peaceful Dinners

“Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife” (Proverbs 17:1, NIV).

Have you ever noticed that when you’re upset or anxious, your stomach gets all tied up in knots, and the last thing you feel like doing is eating? There’s a direct correlation between stress and stomach problems. Don’t you just hate it when a meal is spoiled because the kids are fighting or Dad is testy or you’re tired and cranky? As moms we try hard to prepare delicious meals for our families to enjoy around the dinner table. I wonder if there’s a way to put as much effort into the atmosphere around the table as we put into preparing the food that’s on the table. I’ll bet it would even make everything taste better.

I want peace in our home. Jesus, since You are the Prince of Peace, will You please reign in our family? May the oil of Your spirit smooth the rough edges around our relationships and conversations. Where there is division, bring unity.
