“A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense” (Proverbs 19:11, NIV).
We have a saying in our house: “Just let it go.” Usually it’s directed toward siblings in conflict, but I find myself needing to heed this advice just as often. I’m so focused on consistently correcting and training my children that I sometimes disobey God’s reminder not to exasperate them. I would love to say that I only have this problem when dealing with my children, but I also have to be careful with others in my life. In this world there are many things worth getting upset about, but there are far more that we should simply ignore. We don’t have to demand justice at every slight. There’s no need to be proven right just because we think someone else is wrong. Sometimes problems just happen, and no one is to blame. Relax, get over it—let it go!
God, I don’t want the little things to bug me so much. I want to see the big picture from Your perspective of what’s important. Perform a deep work in me so I’m not so quick to flare up in anger. Fill me with Your mercy so I can be quick to forgive rather than demand justice.
