“Do not say, ‘I'll pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for the LORD, and he will deliver you” (Proverbs 20:22, NIV).
It’s human nature to want revenge. When someone wrongs us—or especially our children—everything within us rises up and demands justice. Yet God tells us not to seek revenge. He isn’t saying that the other person doesn’t deserve to pay for what he or she did. He’s simply telling us to let Him handle it. If we take the law into our own hands, we’ll more than likely end up doing or saying something that demands justice be met against us. The best thing to do is leave justice to the Authority. But we needn’t worry; He’s perfectly capable of defending us and our families.
Father, thank You for not giving me what I deserve. If I had to pay for all the bad things I’ve done and the hurt I’ve caused, my situation would be hopeless. When someone hurts me or my family, help me to hand them over to You. And should You choose to show them mercy, as You do me, then help me to trust You.
