By Catherine Martin (©2007)
According to Catherine Martin, the greatest crisis in the Church today is “an undermining of the authority of the Word of God.” And sadly enough, statistics show that only 45 percent of those who attend church ever open their Bibles apart from their time in the pew. Martin hopes this book will encourage Christians to know and love God’s Word, and use it daily in their personal devotions. It is not a Bible study, however; it is more a book about the Bible. For those who read the Bible regularly but have never gone beyond that “just reading” phase, this may be the book to launch you into those deeper waters.
Knowing and Loving the Bible is a 30-day journey that invites the reader to embrace, explore, experience, and enjoy the “divine romance” of a face-to-face relationship with God through His Word. Each “day” begins with only a verse or two of Scripture, followed by a chapter in which the attributes of the Bible are expanded, and reasons are given for delving deeper into its treasures. Each week the reader is exhorted to read, respond, and experience. A devotional response section is provided with a key verse to meditate on, and questions to consider about personal application. The week is wrapped up with an interactive quiet time that emphasizes the principles learned in that section.
Brief biographies of spiritual giants such as Martin Luther, Dwight Moody, G. Campbell Morgan and George Müller are sprinkled throughout the book.
