By Jimmy Dorrell
New Hope Publishers, 2006
In Trolls & Truth, Jimmy Dorrell challenges us as the church body to welcome all social classes and backgrounds into our churches to worship together.
Dorrell pulls from the real life stories of the members of the congregation he pastors in Waco, Texas. The Church Under the Bridge meets under a highway overpass every week. This church family is made up of druggies, college students, ex-cons and housewives—all setting aside social barriers to worship together. He uses the stories of his members to remind us of basic scriptural teachings many churches have forgotten.
As he tells these stories, he presents a challenge to the church body as a whole: get out of the comfort zone. Share your pew with someone of a different class and love the people in your community despite social barriers.
Trolls & Truth is a quick read as Dorrell’s style is simple and easy to understand. However, the challenge of the deep truths shared might step on a few toes.
