by Alison Strobel (WaterBrook, 2005)
There’s no question Alison Strobel inherited the writing talent of her father, Lee Strobel, author of The Case for Christ and other titles. But instead of apologetics, Alison writes Christian fiction. Her debut novel, Worlds Collide, tells the story of a Hollywood star and a Chicago schoolteacher and their journeys toward faith and each other.
Strobel deals with difficult topics like AIDS, infidelity and substance abuse, all the while nudging her characters closer to God. Unfortunately, Strobel’s mainstream Christian characters do not always set good examples of holy living, so be careful about recommending this book to new Christians or friends to whom you are witnessing. Make sure you read it first to see whether it will help or hurt the person in question.
Over all, Worlds Collide provides a well-written, enjoyable look at Christianity in the entertainment business. The characters are likable and easy to identify with and you’ll miss them when you finish the story.
