Becky is the perfect person to write such a book for other pastors’ wives (and actually for every woman who is married) to glean from her experiences. She understands the special pressures that face a ministry marriage—and how to not only survive, but how to thrive despite them.
She encourages those who read the book to “be good to your husband on purpose—for your sake, for your husband’s sake and for God’s sake.” She insists that purposing to be good to your husband doesn’t stifle you—it frees you; it doesn’t degrade you—it lifts you up; it doesn’t require obedience—it requires choosing to serve Christ in a simple, challenging way.
The book presents a clear and biblical plan that could radically transform any marriage. I personally like the chapter on submission. Becky states, “Only a woman of strength can submit.” Because we have been inundated with reports of misuse and abuse, the power of biblical submission has been lost.
Chapter One: Encouragement—Strategic Support
Chapter Two: Submission Impossible?—Role and Reason
Chapter Three: Finances—Checkmate
Chapter Four: Sleeping Together—A Present Should Be Unwrapped
Chapter Five: Parental Tactics 101—Tots to Twenties
Chapter Six: Communication Matters—Listen Up
At the end of each chapter the reader is given opportunity to make what they have just read personal by answering a few thought-provoking questions. Becky then shares ways to make what the reader has just read practical, giving examples for how to begin. This book is intimately personal, thoroughly practical and warmly interesting.
